Silent_Witness: @Imakuni: Well, Shining Armor is one of... what, like five characters who are confirmed to have an actual love interest. Not to mention he's married!
Though Braeburned's explanation is hardly better- according to him, this little comic takes place before Shining and Cadance were married. But in the first one, Mac refers to Shining as a member of nobility or something along those lines, even though there's no evidence that he or his family were of noble birth in the show.

Braeburned: @Silent_Witness:

Though he's not of royal blood, it's possible that he was already Captain of the royal guard by now! He could have risen quickly to the position; it was his dream after all.

He may not be "royalty" as stated, but he's still a pretty big-name pony in Big Mac's books~
