Anonymous2: Sorry but that entire episode was bullshit. Fucking random ass attractive and successful African nobodies even heard of taking Lars' one true love like that, literally one of the best OTP on the show fucked up by this show's writers because they wanna be "More PC" or some shit. Fuck outta here ffs this shows really gone downhill ngl
Creeperclawz: @Anonymous: yeah but that would require having to find her, explain what sex is then convince her to try it. I don't know why but I don't think too many gems would be up for it.
Anonymous6: The triggered emotional snowflake tears over a shitty OTP not being canon.
Yep, Sadie never sabotaged a warp portal, trapping Lars on an island to break his will and force a relationship. Then she totally didn't have the gall to physically assault him and nearly get him killed when he reacts reasonably to the revelation of her deception, just to have her "save the day". (do damage control for her mistakes) If the roles were reversed, everyone would be losing their shit over how abusive and unhealthy this was.
They're friends, sure, and probably experimented sexually with each other in the past, but the entire romance angle has always been one-sided. Sadie was constantly bending backwards to force the relationship and ending up repeatedly disappointed. Lars was either rejecting the advances or giving in to either get her to let up or to feed his extremely fragile ego. Sadie needs mutual romance, Lars needs praise and recognition. They both got what they needed.
Inocencius: @Anonymous: If we convert the description you offer of this relationship to basic arithmetic signs (+, -), there seems to be a resounding = 0. But I see an -a, that is, a negative relationship. What kind of friendship is that?
Anonymous8(6): @Inocencius: Why would we convert the description of a relationship to arithmetic signs and analyze it mathematically to begin with? Relationships aren't overwhelmingly based on logic.
Different people have different emotional needs which vary in priority depending on the type of a relationship. You don't need to love a co-worker like you would a romantic interest to get along with them. You can also remain good friends with an ex over shared interests and experience, because that's not necessarily where the failures with the romantic relationship occurred.
Logic has a place in these types of inquiries to the extent that determines the concept and the maximum of the actions of individuals in their relationships. But the logic required cannot be formal or mathematical, another is required. This is why, first of all, it has been possible for you to distinguish romantic relationships from friendly relationships.
But notice that the change from one to another is not immediate, it is gradual. A friendship is a unit of two or more people in reciprocal love and respect; A marriage is the union of two people. Romance can occur perfectly in a friendship, for example, but then it is no longer a mere friendship. Notice how I went from 0 to 1. And see how these two went, not from 1 to 0; but to -1. A friendship that transits into romance cannot expect the concept to be the same once the last one ends.
Here something happens to make it -1. You say: '' Sadie needs mutual romance, Lars needs praise and recognition. Both got what they needed. '' Sure, there is the problem, they were only used as means and not as ends. Again, what kind of friendship is that? That 0 is just an illusion.
Anonymous11: @Inocencius: I don't find much value in focusing on a single set of conflicts in a larger pool of needs to judge an entire friendship. One set of conflicts can only really say something about one aspect of that relationship. The two examples given were presented as a single set of conflicts in one critical aspect of their romantic relationship. Both found their needs in that instance were better met through other relationships (Shep and space pirate status with the Off-Colors). It says nothing about their past shared experience or other successfully met needs as friends.
I'm not going to argue whether or not their platonic relationship is 100% justifiable in logical terms, as many aren't. Emotions are paradoxical. Not everyone forms connections or bonds the same way. There are friendships based on lies that have lasted longer than those that weren't. It's not always mutual or reciprocal in the same ways to each person. One's sense of manipulation may be another's desire for guidance. The strength and nature of a relationship is a balancing act of which wins outweigh which losses for each individual. And not everyone is playing with the same sized deck or even needs the same amount of points to score.
I would add that not only emotions, but also passions. You are right about the dynamics of these concepts in humanity along with their dramatic and complex relationships. However, the maxims of the actions seem more important than the actions themselves. Ask yourself if your subjective principle of wanting or desire agrees with a practical, objective, non-empirical objective principle. Therefore, a friendship based on lies is morally incorrect and perhaps from an aesthetic point of view, more interesting for the collective imagination and entertainment, like the Steven Universe series itself; But such a friendship is doomed to fail. That gives the impression that friendship is an ideal; but that ideal exists with its respective forces: love attracts, respect moves away, although it is as rare as a black swan. The human race must learn to control their inclinations, desires, drives if they do not want to be confronted with theirs or with themselves later. Therefore, the two examples do not represent a set of an apparently larger totality; but a series of consequences of maximum selfishness. It is preferable not to have any romance or friendship whatsoever to be humiliated and I think that the series at earlier times has confirmed it. But of course ... knowing how to work always takes time, and mankind has a lot in it.
Anonymous12: They making Sadie look like an ass, they're cool with each other and Sadie wouldnt do this. Also I'm pretty sure Lars is bisexual from what I've heard.
AnonymAnonymus: well i´d agree that Sadie and Lars ain´t the perfect couple, but her being with some random african transgender nobody was just as dumb as it can get.
i´m not into shipping but it would be pretty hilarious if Lars no end up with tsundere Emerald.
