fistmaster: This is damned near canon. Charles once let slip (telepathically) that he totally had the hots for Jean from the first time he saw her. The comic kind of yada-yada'd over how the first time he saw her she was all of ten, and he was hired by her parents to help her since she in a near catatonic depression over her friend Annie's death. In fact, the most out-of-canon part of this picture is that Old Chuck is a telepath, not a clairvoyant.
