ButtercupSaiyan: Well, transgendered anyway. Since she's a ghost, I like the idea of her shape being a bit malleable. If it makes you sleep better at night, think of it as taking place during Goombella's Tattle investigation.

Anonymous3: Crimeny, you're an obnoxious little bitch, Thunderfap. You've already been proven wrong on multiple occasions. Let it go and go fap to one of the LITERALLY billions of female characters out there, and leave the TINY handful of canon traps we have alone. Good grief.

Anonymous4: Anon3, vivian was confirmed to be female. Get over it.

anomalous: Why is his gender even an issue?

Anonymous5: If we're strictly talking the Japanese version, the canon-version, mind you then here. Straight from the wiki: "In the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Vivian was said to be a male. It is openly stated in Vivian's character description, which is roughly translated as "One of the shadow group, Vivian appears to be a girl but is really a boy." (in Japanese: 「カゲ三人組の一人だった オンナのコのようで ホントは オトコのコ」). Additionally, Goombella's Tattle reads: "That's Vivian. Of the shadow group, she's the youngest sister... er, brother." (in Japanese: 「『ビビアン』よ カゲ三人組の一人で いちばん下の妹 ・・・じゃなくて 弟ね」). [1]

While Beldam uses the term "majotachi" (meaning a group of sorceresses) to refer to her, Marilyn and Vivian as a collective, she also calls Vivian "man". Despite this, female pronouns such as "her" and "she" are used when referring to Vivian, though this may be because it is considered proper to refer to transgendered persons by the gender they identify themselves with.[2] In addition, Goombella seems to conclude that she is female during the game's ending.[3]

In the English version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, all references to Vivian being male are removed. All instances where attention was drawn to Vivian's gender were also removed, such as replacing Beldam's "man" quotes with "Plug-Ugly" insults. Some translations in the PAL region maintained the Japanese version's portrayal of Vivian, such as the Spanish version[4], which also uses the other Shadow Sirens' acceptance of Vivian's chosen gender as part of their efforts to be nice to her after the game[5]. In the Italian version, on the other hand, she is female, but it is said several time in the game that she was male before. The French version keeps the original Japanese description of Vivian being a boy who disguises as a girl."
The NA release is the ONLY one to completely remove any of these references of being male/transgendered. Vivian is canonically male. You can kick and scream all you want, this is fact. Now me, I like Vivian as a girl better, but I have no problem with Vivian actually being male/trans. So shut the fuck up already, ThunderZap. Stop leaving your incorrect nonsense all over the place.

Cancer: nope Anon2, by definition Rule 63 is gender swap and dick girls aren't really a gender swap so it stays as it is

Currently Vivian and Birdo are the same gender.

Genjar: You folks really should stop using that Super Mario Wiki article as a source. Since its only source is a poorly translated Gamefaq walkthrough.

If you play the original, it's obvious that Vivian is male who (mostly) crossdresses to better fit in with the sisters. ...although he nearly confesses to Mario near the end, so I guess he does swing that way. :/

Genjar: In any case... Vivian is usually depicted as futa in Japan. Just check any random art or doujin that you can find.

I'm not sure what's the actual fandom logic behind that. Confirmed as male + wants to be a girl = dick girl? *shrug*

Anonymous6: this is rule 63 what is cannon in Japan is not cannon here and that is the same for other contrees got it what is with you guy/girl? we go by what is cannon here not Japan ok. so this is 63 so get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ThunderFap: @Anonymous: from that same wiki page it also says that it confirms her as female at the end of the japanese version. she only refers to vivian as male because of the insult made by beldam. and its ThunderFAP not zap
- Reply
Genjar: It does not. Whoever claims anything like that hasn't played the original.

I thought it had already been fixed in the wiki. Either someone vandalized it again or you haven't rechecked it in a while.

Genjar: It is Vivian's whole shtick in the original. Being picked on by Beldam, who is squicked whenver Vivian acts girly and calls them sisters. I have no idea how anyone could misinterpret it.

By the end Beldam seems to accept her as one of the 'sisters', or at the very least she no longer throws a fit about it. Which is far from "confirming Vivian as female".

I dunno how many here are familiar with Steins;Gate, but in the original Vivian is pretty similar character to Ruka Urushibara.
