The D&D kobolds are awfully proud of their scales, which they claim as proof that they descended from dragons. (And when you're first-level-character fodder, there's not a lot to be proud of, so you take what you can get. Even if most of the other races don't believe it.)
This might be a Dwarf Fortress kobold, though. I think Toady said they're dog-faced, fur-covered semi-reptilians.
Anonymous3: This is either a Dwarf Fortress Kobold or a Cutebold, a spin-off Kobold that were, as the name implies, meant to simply be much cuter than the racist reptile version.
