An_Onymous: A colony with one female and ass-tons of males is not actually an observed pattern in social insects, IIRC. What one usually sees is:
A) One reproductive female with a harem of males (drones) and a great number of sterile females (workers); this is a common pattern in hymenopterans.
B) Several reproductives of either sex, and a large number of steriles of either sex; this is common in termites.
There are also mammals that exhibit social organization like that of social insects, e.g. naked mole rats. These largely follow pattern A.
An_Onymous: Correction: Naked mole rats don't quite follow pattern A. There is generally a single reproductive female, but the steriles can be either sex.
