The rest of the team surprised Monterey Jack right as he came out of his room that morning, all wishing him a happy birthday and exchanging affectionate hugs. These continued during breakfast, while also mentioning that they had prepared a special surprise for him.
Said surprise was revealed when the team accompanied him to the living room, there, hogtied and wearing only a ball gag, was Monterey’s old flame and betrayer, Desiree D’Allure. His shock must have been evident since his friends had to snap him out of his stupor. The first to provide an explanation was Gadget.
“She came to us while you were away, saying that she changed, she really was in love with you and begging us to give her a chance. We let her in and of course as soon as she could she betrayed us. She actually tried to sell Foxglove and I to her former boss up north so that he would call back the bounty hunters that are after her.”
Monterey couldn’t stop glaring in disgust at his former love, then Chip continued explaining.
“We knew that we couldn’t trust her so we set up a little trap just in case she turned on us and it worked like a charm. Long story short we decided that she will be your present for your birthday, call it a payment for both what did to you and what tried to do to Gadget and Foxglove”
This time Monterey had an unsure look on his face, but before he could say anything Foxglove intervened.
“She wanted to sell us as sex slaves Monty, that horrible person was very explicit in what would have happened to Gadget and I once she handed us over to ‘our new owners’, as she put it. Besides whatever you do to her is probably nothing compared to what those bounty hunters and her former boss will do if they ever find her.”
“In other words don’t feel bad and enjoy your present you big dummy!” Finally added Dale.
With that The rest of the Rangers left the tree, leaving Monterey alone with the girl that caused so much pain and grief in his life.
“Well luv, I think it’s time to catch up don’t you think?”
Hearing that Desiree began squirming with increased vigour, her face showing fear and panic.

Hours later on the floor of the room of the Australian mouse, tired, and clearly bruised from a whole day of manhandling, Desiree was too spent to try anything to escape. Still she stiffened again as she heard him entering the room.
“Great news luv, those guy who are looking for you will be here in the city for at least another week, this means many more days for you to show how sorry you are for what you did to me and my friends, before I toss you in the first ship for the most remote corner of the world I can find.”
The French mousette whimpered hearing the news.
Monterey smiled at that.
