queue: @chef: it's pretty easy with see-through censors and a copy of photoshop. select the censored area, create a new layer, ctrl + m for curves and adjust the brightness so the censor matches the surrounding image, then just erase the extra white around the censor and combine the layers.
SR: yeah, queue has it right on the bulk of that, but i also used de-noise to clean up some of the weird spots of color that can pop up due to jpeg artifacts(and massively increasing the contrast of them) in the darkened areas, and since the edges had a bit of a gradient, i had to go back and manually sample and draw over them.
