Anonymous4: They call that a "nabe" in Japan. It isn't as much a "soup" but rather a big pot/saucepan full of a yummy mishmash of stewed contents. In Japan these are really popular for drinking parties and celebrations (similar to how people treat a barbecue in the US). You'll notice the can of beer behind the nabe/stewpot.
