The word "panzer" actually translates to "armour"... "Panzerkampfwagen" has several translations, but the one my military-man English teacher always refered to was "armoured battle wagon"...

Before the Panther, the "Panzer" line of tanks weren't given extraneous names... The Panzer II was just the Panzer II, the Panzer IV was just the Panzer IV and so on...
