Hellstroem: This is high art. And anything that pokes fun of organized religion is A-okay in my book.

LadyStardust: At least she's not pissing on the bible in this one.

Danzaiver: It's funny how people think that hating religion makes them any better than religious zealots.
- Reply
rewind2846: Most folks that "hate" religion more correctly dislike religion's influence over society, especially when it comes to the law.
That being said, this is funny as shit...

Danzaiver: That is understandable. It just irritates me when pseudo-intellectuals (and actual intellectuals) make fun of religion because it's in vogue, not because they actually have any idea what the Hell they're talking about.

Also, the pic is hilarious. It's the commentary that I'm leery of.

Punpun: Thank you, som, for making religion a little more palatable. :D

som: I don't hate religion. Actually, even though I no longer believe, I was raised Catholic and know more about the Bible, etc. than most of my Christian friends. When you do Superbook 34, though, you *have* to have some kind of religious angle!

Freezer: It's not like more of the mouth-frothing "atheists" (Note the quotes) don't hate religion, just Christianity (and possibly Islam). Mention a non-Judeo-Christian religion (Hindu, Buddism, Shinto, Wicca), and the rage ain't there. Like they don't really count.

som: Probably because those two are the worst ones about their disciples trying to inflict their religion on others. That's the only time religion becomes a pain to me; when others use it to interfere with *my* life.

queernigbilly: I love Christianity because without it I wouldn't be able to watch all those shitty telethons

Freezer: They don't have PBS or the Lou Rawls telethons where you are?
- Reply
queernigbilly: yes, but religious telethons are much better.

Freezer: Can't argue with that. They're so earnest and cheesy and full of Jesue Juice!

Rule34d: lol @ Desumilk who comments on a pic even if she has no idea what it's about.

Punpun: I know exactly what you mean, som. I was raised Catholic and stopped believing (I'm sure there's others here, too). So in a way, I feel like a kindred spirit. Not that I could actually be kindred with someone so talented. :D

som: Oh come on, I'm just a perv like the rest of you. And if being raised Catholic gave you crazy, deep-seated guilt issues, then yes, we are of the same ilk.

Anonymous3: Hahahaha, I has the Christian Channel with this show on it. My first time seeing it, I feel my childhood missed out.

Also, if you still have guilt issues despite being Irreligious I can understand your pain.

Anonymous8: Freezer, a lot of the rage you describe isn't there towards those other religions because they don't have powerful lobbying groups that try to influence laws in this country and the rights of other people. If the Christian religion kept it's irrational kooky beliefs to itself rather than trying to push them into the law all the time, atheists might not be so outspoken against them.

That being said, I don't think you really hang out around many atheists, read atheist media regularly, or listen to their podcasts if you think that Christianity and Islam are the only religions that get criticized. As someone who listens to Atheist podcasts and reads atheist blogs on occasions, I've seen critique leveled at all kinds of religious/new-age "woo woo" that tries to push itself out into the public (effecting laws, public health, preying on consumer gullibility, etc...).

Generally though, critique of religions usually gets leveled most strongly at religions who try to deceive people through fake cures and wacky nonsense or religions that try to influence laws that effect believers and non-believers alike. It only makes sense that criticism and attention will be focused on the religions that are responsible for that shit most regularly. In America, that religion is most usually Christianity (not always, no... but most usually).
