Suzienymph: Don't forget that Bulma is a mispronunciation of Bloomers. And that her last name is Briefs. Almost every name in the series is some sort of parody. It's all on purpose.

Anonymous2: Pan actually is the Japanese word for Bread I think

Anonymous3: Wrong, Anon2.

The character named "Hercule" in America was, in Japan, named "Mr. Satan." Pan is named for the Pagan god on whom the Christian image of Satan was modeled.

Anonymous4: No Anon2 is right.

Anonymous5: whatever, it's hot

MR_Furry: pan is bread like anon 2 said but in spanish amd the grandpa was name in latin american version Mr hercule satan but then they called him mr satan because of the city

Anonymous6: It's possible that both explanations are correct, since there are a lot of puns in Dragon Ball names, and the creator could have used both.

Anonymous7: Actually, Pan is a double pun on purpose.
Her grandfather is Mr. Satan, and her mother is Videl (an anagram of Devil), the Pan is a reference to the pagan god.
HOWEVER
It is also a reference to the Spanish word for bread, as her father is Gohan, which is Japanese for rice. Additionally, all full blooded saiyans are named after vegetables, Krillin is derived from the Japanese word for chestnut, etc. etc. There's alot of fucking food puns.

Anonymous9: totally not a trace

Anonymous10: To add to the puns; Mr. Satan's real name is also Mark. When that's directly romanized from Japanese, it's Maaku. Which is a Japanese anagram if Akuma, the Japanese word for "devil"

....
Oh yeah! The pic!
