_not_anonymous: I just want to preface this that I fucking LOVE Mando (both his music and him) and am probably the biggest, most insufferable Mando fanboi there is. Having said that, even I can't deny the 4chan incident.
Basically, in 2012 he collaborated extensively with the Crebers (which contributed substantially to his popularity), and mid-2012 he toured to a few cons (namely Everfree Northwest and Canterlot Gardens) with them to perform with Michelle (and occasionally her parents as well). During their tours they uploaded some vlogs of their escapades (usually them sitting around doing silly shit or playing music).
A couple of months later 4chan decided to, for lulz, start a thread suggesting Mando had the hots for Michelle and was a paedophile/creeper (hence, "MandoPedo"). It was mostly just people shitposting, nothing too serious - chances are people probably would have forgotten it within a month. As fate should have it, however, Mando happened across this thread and, in simple terms, flipped the fuck out. I didn't see it myself, but apparently he raged like all fuckery and made a general ass of himself (even dragging Sibsy into the fallout).
Consequently, he unfortunately made a name for himself as being trolled REALLY FUCKING EASILY. He was hounded relentlessly for the year following the incident, because not only was he really easy to bait with the whole MandoPedo thing, he also responded rather poorly to criticism of his music on more than once occasion (as chilidogbizkut pointed out, he can be sensitive). As such the MandoPedo thing never really died and it only encouraged his detractors.
Needless to say, Mando's grasp of internet etiquette was shockingly poor. He constantly responded to trolls, which only encouraged their behaviour. More recently, however (the last ~6 months) he's improved, and very rarely responds to bait, if ever (and occasionally counter-trolls). As such the activity from the trolls has been significantly lower to what it used to be, but sadly he's probably not going to live down the 4chan incident any time soon.
