BEGINNINGS 1998 - 1999

RUMBLE is among my most pleasing avatar work, both because I like the guy so much and because he figured heavily over a long period in 1998 where I considerably upped my skills and scaled up my ambitions for the work. Everybody's favourite little Tough Guy™ is of course largely similar to that of FRENZY's icon. What made RUMBLE a more difficult icon to complete was the colour of his head, which belongs roughly to the same group of helmet colours applied to characters like REFLECTOR, GALVATRON, and CYCLONUS. I thought at the time that his palette featured my first successful mix of that particular set of violet / lavender shades. A trend also began with RUMBLE and FRENZY that I later decided to discontinue: smiling mouths. It made the characters I adorned in this manner look far too simple-minded. Not that a confident smirk would look out of place on RUMBLE's face, of course.

SECOND WIND 2007 - 2009

A mainstay in the alteration department was RUMBLE's mohawk and helmet cheek guards. I often found angles of helmets difficult to discern correctly, but in later years looking at real objects has helped me get a more realistic impression of what they would look like if they were standing in real space. The 2007 work was rather negligible, which made it easier for the 2009 upgrade to satisfy me, not least in its colouring, based as it was on a screen capture from MICROBOTS, which also carries over to the present iteration, albeit with further refinement in size, colour, and general balancing.
