Description
At some point the Blue Devil decided that going for the small fry, the minor evil spirits and demons, just wasn’t enough. It was like fighting against the symptoms of the problem instead of going for the root cause. So he decided to attack the one responsible for unleashing the evil – a reanimated evil druid known as the Blackbriar Thorn. But when the Blue Devil got to him, the Blackbriar Thorn wasn’t impressed. Instead of fighting Blue Devil himself he summoned a powerful apparition. Phantasm put up quite a fight before Blue Devil was able to subdue it, and it turned out Phantasm was so strong because it was bound to the soul of a human who was still alive. Henry Ballard, a small-time occultist who never aimed at high stakes, only “dipping his toes” in the realm of the supernatural, had his soul ripped from his body and enslaved. The druid promised Henry freedom for his service, but Henry suspected that those promises were empty. Those suspicions made it possible for the Blue Devil to reach Henry’s consciousness and free his soul from the druid’s influence. Using his trident, Blue Devil caused a massive feedback that caused Blackbriar Thorn significant damage. The druid wasn’t destroyed and he swore to punish the Blue Devil, but it was clear that was another one of his empty promises. Still, Henry Ballard felt he wasn’t really free from the Phantasm. Instead he was sure he could now control the apparition…if he focused hard enough. The question remained – what shopuld he do with it now that Blue Devil left to continue his hunt for the druid?
